I have visited popular wastelands
Bolden places with familiar faces
Mystical traces of war and death
No one questions it however deprived it is left
Wastelands of freedom where you really have no choice
Where life is just as simple as abortion
And we are living in spiritual discourse
Wastelands of marriage where adultery is a common drug
No respect for the covenant of life
Reliving death shot down by slugs
I have visited popular wastelands
Flared veins dope fiends insane
Who’s to blame in this sea of despair
Call it drugs or government see no one cares
Their too busy being silent
Not wanting to go there
I have visited popular wastelands
Back alleyways minds are crazed
Kids never phased wallowing in disrespect
They don’t know they are the future of the last ones left
In wastelands of poverty surrounded by TV
Teaching nothing but how to succumb to slavery
Slavery of their own thinking
Dark minds impeaching
Every gift of intellect
That could raise them out of death
Yeah I visited popular wastelands
And I couldn’t stand the stench
Many standing in the midst of it catching a whiff
Acting as if
There is no sign of decomposition
Not even willing to listen or read the signs
Saying putrescible waste
Instead they stay
I’ve visited popular wastelands
Old and dilapidated memories faded
Walls tainted I can’t stay there
My senses have made me intrinsically aware
Gotta leave this place before it consumes me
I will never be popular and wasted away to a place that never knew me
Yeah I visited popular wastelands

Vince Bryant in Iraq Writing Lyrics After 9/11

Vince Bryant in Iraq Writing Lyrics After 9/11

Texas – September 11, 2011 – Effective Immediately – BreakIt! Distribution is proud to announce a new signing with Vince Bryant

BreakIt! Distribution is proud to announce its signing of Vince Bryant. Bryant has proven to remain true to Hip Hop as well as his country, serving 2 terms in Iraq preceding the tragedies of 9/11. It is only fitting that he embark upon another war, the Hip Hop Revolution, on the same day that he was boarding a flight to Camp Pendleton, when tragedy struck America’s peace and infrastructure on a mass level to engage in Marine Combat Training for the battle to come.

ABOUT VINCE BRYANT
Some decide at some point in their lives, they have a love for music some decide they have a talent for music. Some, such as Vince Bryant are chosen for the music industry, to lead a culture — born and delivered into it like a breech baby feet first, landing firmly on the ground.  On November 20th, Leo and Lilla Bryant birthed the most spiritual MC into a strange land to represent as the chosen. Bryant is presently the most versatile artist in the Houston area — acting as a vocalist, song-writer, producer and lyricist, he has the ability to sing and rap comparably. Developing his drive and talent in the house of the Lord at the age of only 5 years old, Bryant was mesmerized and intrigued by the sound of his own voice, realizing he was blessed with a natural gift of music. He ventured and explored various genres and styles of music to test his skills. In 1985, Bryant took his career to another level, creating his own style of Hip Hop inspired by some of the most successful pioneers in the industry such as Whodini, LL Cool J, KRS1, Rakim and Public Enemy. Already established as a well-known producer himself, Bryant encountered producer Jeffrey Sadik McNeil in 2002. After their meeting the two inspired a major catalog of songs together blessed by the instant connection of their talents. Bryant’s inexorable rhymes and Sadik’s impervious beats cultivated a style of Hip Hop never delved upon in the community and proved to be intergalactic in reach.

In 1998, Vince Bryant was the first North-side artist to be recognized as a professional artist from the North-side, on DJ Screws 1998 mixtape release Outlaws. During a time when North-side and South-side Houston were not showing love, unless regionally, this was a huge accomplishment and solidified the beginnings of peace amongst the feuding sides of town. In 1999 Bryant a.k.a. the Bishop, at the time, began performing in the Houston area gaining notoriety throughout and today is one of the greatest underground artists in Houston.

Bryant released his first mixtape in 2005, titled, “Interview With A Veteran” while serving in the United States Marine Corps in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom soon to be followed by his debut album titled “Sadik McNeil Presents: Vince Bryant’s Greatest Hits Vol. VII.” Properly noted Sergeant Bryant, Bryant’s background as a U.S. Marine Combat Veteran, lyricist in the music industry, and a juvenile detention center drill instructor has culminated a diverse partnership in the vision to make drastic changes in the music industry and communities world-wide. His battle overseas to afford a country privileges and freedom, we at times take for granted, has never ended. He is now fighting a realistic battle right in the US to reach youth through the most miraculous influence known to them…  MUSIC!

Lesson for today…. you have to have some kind of budget to be successful in this industry… whether it is limited or extensive. Whether you want to remain independent or prepare yourself to get signed to a major label… you have to build your image, your presence, your product and your paperwork!!! None of that stuff comes by way of being TOTALLY FREE! So in essence you may have to make a few sacrifices in order to see success. But ask yourself is the sacrifice worth it. Sacrifice for self means you believe in yourself… If you can’t sacrifice for self you can’t expect that others will.

Before a bank will give you a loan on your business… they want to see what you have invested in it yourself… they want to see how much you have progressed with the opportunity yourself… They want to see how much you believe in your own business. It is no different in the music industry. Before anyone will invest in you, monetarily or thru time and energy, they want to see how much you have invested or how much you are willing to invest in yourself!!!!

I mean how many ARTISTS have actually written down their BUSINESS PLAN…. PROJECT PLAN…. MARKETING PLAN…. ANY PLAN????? And compared it to their budget???? How much are you working with… how much is it going to take to accomplish one project and build presence with it… create an image for it, package it…. and generate some sales??? How are you going to go about accomplishing all of this and how much money and effort (sweat equity) is it going to take? How many artists have really considered all of this?

Now how many actually have the ability to do it themselves or build a team to d it for them? It can be done, but in the event you can’t do it yourself, guess what it is going to take a budget to get it done for you… What is your budget, who can you afford and what really makes sense to push? Are you pushing unnecessary things… or the real elements that will help you to be successful?

Vince Bryant Unplugged

Vince Bryant Unplugged

Walking into Houston’s Club Curve for a Friday evening hip hop show, one would expect the typical underground rap scene. Instead you walk into an elegant, classy setting, climbing stairs to reach Vince Bryant’s Unplugged performance and find yourself in the midst of sexiness. The tone was clearly set, live band, stylish contemporary décor, lit therapeutic candles, Vince Bryant’s specially requested professional culinary vegetarian cuisine and a room full of true hip hop supporters.

Lining the stage you see the four-piece band, background singers, dimmed lighting just at the forefront of two military issued U.S. Marine uniforms worn by former combat veteran and music hip hop lyricist, Vince Bryant. With clear view of the setting, the ambiance, and the people, I could see the amazement and wonder on the faces of the people on what to expect from this show. The words of the guests were ringing in the air, “he really did this” and “I must take a page from his book on this one.”

Suddenly you hear a U.S. Marine recruitment commercial blaring from the speakers, images flashing on the bar’s flat screen, an iconic voice speaking introductions, and the crowd in search of the voice yet not finding the speaker – knowing that the voice they are hearing is that of Vince Bryant. Suddenly taking a slow purposed stride thru the crowd appears a figure hooded and draped in a Marine Corp. jacket and black fashioned jeans. You can’t help but notice the figure isn’t wearing shoes. Even amongst the darkness, his bare dark socks stand out as he continues his stride to the stage. Mounting the stage, what becomes more apparent are the high top black tennis shoes that lay before him. Suddenly he eases his feet into each shoe, signifying that upon this stage, this day I have taken my rightful place, now walking in the embodiment of the purpose for which I was birthed. The words rang clear and the understanding of the title of his album was solidified. Behold I Return… The Resurrection of Vince Bryant. The stage, the props, Vince Bryant’s purposed walk to the stage all gave speech to that title.

Opening with his new project introduction “I Am The One” the message only got louder. I heard these words come from Vince Bryant – allowing me to understand the mind of a lyricist and culminating the feel that I grasped from the moment I stepped into the building – and they resonated with me in a profound way. He spoke, “Chosen to be the best man for the fans… I’m trying to rap in a strange land with strange people… I’m lethal.” While those words have a biblical foundation, they also signify a combat veteran who left his home to fight for the freedoms of another country to return home, still a lyricist, just to find himself engulfed in an estranged industry.

One has to realize while he was fighting in Iraq, a hip hop nation was dying and Houston was slowly becoming the slump that it had been dubbed… “the dirty south.” Back to reclaim the game and place Houston back on the map of true hip hop and music art form, Vince Bryant put on a performance that will echo in the halls of Club Curve for years to come. What we all witnessed was an actual performance much deserving of the main stage!

No longer will I walk into a “rap show” or hip hop show and accept an artist rapping over a CD of their own lyrics. Every artist in Houston has been called out to step up their performance, majorly. For $10, I walked into a gallery of sexiness, exquisite eating, live band and a high caliber performance by Vince Bryant. I have not been in a hip hop scene such as this one in many years. It is great to see that an artist of Vince Bryant’s caliber still believes in the art form and the showmanship of a performance. It was obvious he is well-versed in commanding the crowd, his band, his own performance and even the videographers as he performs.

Not only has Houston been waiting on the return of Vince Bryant, the resurrection of Vince Bryant will also prove to be the resurrection of the hip hop scene as we know it across the world.

97.6 BreakIt! Radio HIP HOP Music Fest (Networking Opportunity)

97.6 BreakIt! Radio HIP HOP Music Fest (Networking Opportunity)

“Your Network determines your net worth” is the most powerful statement I have ever read in business.  I worked for one of the top accounting firms, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and my focus in the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) department consisted of writing winning proposals. In writing proposals one of the keys to being successful at it is doing your homework – clear, concise research.  I found in my position I was always faced with this question while doing my research – who is doing well in the market right now?  Then I was faced with the second question – who is doing better?  The bottom line became how will it benefit he who is doing better to collaborate with he who is doing well and how do I convince them to come together?  To understand this concept you have to know that M&A doesn’t always happen because a company is failing and the only way for them to survive is to be bought out or combined with a company that is doing much better in the market. M&A also takes place between companies that are doing extremely well. Why?  Corporations have recognized when they combine their efforts and strategies they can grow rapidly in their industry.  That goes back to that age old concept that two heads are better than one.  When you make a collaborative effort with another organization you increase your man power, your talent pool, your resources, your strategies, etc.

So what do words like network, net worth and collaborative efforts have to do with Independent Music Artists and Labels? It’s a clear concept and I am sure most have figured it out already, but figuring it out is not the key. The key is actually doing it! If your network of people that you do business with in this industry is solid, on point and running in the same direction as yours and if your network compliments your business, you have the makings of a powerful team.  You have to align yourself with individuals who share the same dream and drive. When you collaborate with people who are on that same page you increase your visibility and opportunities tremendously.

So often, we forget that it takes a team of people to build success and we try to do it on our own… all alone. That method gets you nowhere fast. First, we have rid ourselves of the attitudes that we don’t need anyone to be successful in this industry. Once we realize the benefit of working with others, it is time to put it into action. Utilize every opportunity you encounter to network with others. You never know what relationships will build from there. When you show support for others in this industry, if you have made careful selections and screened properly, you will find that they will return the favor.

Imagine for a moment all of the major success stories and think of how they formed a network and collaborated together to build in this industry.  Just to name a few Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake and Common. Somehow all of these individuals found ways to collaborate and build with others and even one another. When you hear one person dropping something the other is featured and then a piggy back follows with the featured artist’s new album. Old game… and guess what it’s still the same. If we think on a local level, I will use Houston because that’s where I currently reside; Wreck Shop collaborated with many artists and non-artists to create a buzz for their company. They generated some buzz through Fat Pat; however, they capitalized on that buzz by dropping a movie, The Dirty 3rd.  In doing that movie they worked with a lot of people in the Houston and surrounding areas to make it happen – from Slim Thug all the way to the camera crew, actors and actresses.  A lot of people may not know that there was never a script for that movie. However, Wreck Shop worked together with all involved in the movie to come up with lines, shots and strategies for the movie. Seemingly the movie was low budget, but it served its purpose. It created a huge buzz for Wreck Shop Records at that time.

In saying that, I will also say when you create these opportunities continue to nurture and grow them because just as easy as it is to blaze the scene and create a huge visible force, it is just as easy to turn the lights off on your success. Stay determined, focused and never lose the drive, hunger and passion for your craft!
